Tobin Marais Richter is an Artist Member of Chicago’s Palette & Chisel Academy of Fine Arts. The prize-winning painter has studied with Errol Jacobson, Diana Stezalski, Romel de la Torre, Andrew Conklin and Mary Qian. He paints both plein air and studio works: landscapes, cityscapes and figure studies.
Mr. Richter has exhibited in Chicago at the Cliff Dweller’s Member’s art shows, Chicago’s Palette & Chisel, and the Kamp Galleries, Winnetka. On the west coast in Washington State, he has exhibited at the juried Plein Air Painters of Washington – San Juan Preservation Trust Annual Plein Air Benefit Art Show, Orcas Island, Washington, where his work entitled “Horseshoe Lake” was awarded Third Prize. His work has been exhibited at the Crow Valley Pottery Gallery in East Sound, Orcas Island, Washington.
Mr. Richter earned a degree in city planning at the University of Virginia School of Architecture, where he also studied art and architectural drawing. He has since studied at the Palette & Chisel and the Lill Street Gallery in Chicago. In addition to membership in the Palette & Chisel, he paints with the Plein Air Painters of Chicago (PAPC) and the Plein Air Painters of Washington (PAWa).
Mr. Richter’s work is in private collections in Chicago, Michigan, Los Angeles, Boston and Washington. When he is not covered with paint, he is an attorney with the Chicago firm of Neal and Leroy.
